Plate 9: ATLAS detector at CERN

Plate09_ATLASPlate 9: The ATLAS detector for the LHC, in an early stage of construction.

In the final, operational form of the detector, this gigantic framework gets densely packed with magnets, sensors, and ultrafast electronics. This is what it takes to make a camera capable of resolving times of order 10-27 second and 10-17 centimeter!
